F.A.Q

Q: What size caravans do you make?

A: Any size you like. Anything from 10′ up to 28′ or more – and we are not restricted to 2′ multiples either. If you want a van that is 15′ 2″, we will build it!

Q: The chassis doesn’t look very strong … is it?

A: Yes, it is very strong. it is easy to use large steel sections to obtain strength in a chassis, but we feel that saving weight is important, therefore we engineer the chassis to be stronger and lighter. The body is also part of the structure, which adds to the overal strength.

Q: How much does it weigh?

A: Obviously weight will vary with options and van sizes, however, comparing strength with strength and option for option, we believe we build the lightest off-road caravan on the market.

Q: How strong is the body and how do we repair it?

A: Gemhunter caravans are far harder to damage than conventionally built caravans, but in the unlikely event of damage to the van, the fibreglass can be easily repaired by any reputable fibreglass repairer. We ourselves have inflicted serious damage to the corner of our garage (whilst trying to park) without even a scratch on the van.

Q: Is fibreglass hard to care for?

A: At Gemhunter we use the latest in marine grade gelcoat which is designed to survive the most extreme conditions. General maintenance is as per the paint on your vehicle – wash wih soapy water and polish yearly.

Q: What is the frame made of?

A: There is no frame. The whole body, including the floor, is made from two layers of fibreglass with a structural closed cell polyurethane foam sandwiched between. This method of construction is used extensively in large yachts and is very strong.

Q: Is it insulated?

A: Because of the closed cell foam which is used in the panels which in turn make up the entire body (including floors) the caravans have excellent temperature and sound insulation, so there is no need for extra insulation.

Q: Can I have…?

A: Yes! We can build or add anything – I mean anything – you like.
